Dear Mr Brown -

All right about the paper -

About the exhibition[3] I have come to the conclusion that we will arrange for next year - Therefore prepare your proposals as you said you would and every thing can be nicely settled beforehand -

About the French etchings[4], I will send them shortly -

About the F. A. S. Venetian etchings[5] I believe they will come out far more beautifully than ever!

I am making of them wonderful new states!!

As to cutting - amazing!

J McN Whistler

Notes:

1.  [April 1889]
Dated by reference to etchings (see below).

2.  Ernest G. Brown
Ernest George Brown (1853 or 1854-1915), assistant manager at the Fine Art Society [more]. There are several later copies of this letter (#01200, #02731, #03076).

3.  exhibition
JW did not have another exhibition at the Fine Art Society at this time, although it is mentioned in several letters.

4.  French etchings
'Renaissance set', 1888 (K.368-402) (excat 9).

5.  F. A. S. Venetian etchings
Mr Whistler's Etchings of Venice, 1880 (the first 'Venice Set') (K. 183-189, 191-195). (excat 5). The F.A.S. wanted JW to print the etchings, but he continually revised them, thus slowing down the completion of the edition.
