[p. 2] I James Allan Abbot McNiel [sic] Whistler of No. 2 Lindsay Road Row Chelsea in the Co[unt]y of Midde[lese]x attest under oath & say that I was born in Massachussetts in the United States of AmAmerica & I have never been naturalized in England & being an American Citz Citizen of the United States of America & not an Englishman or naturalized in England I did not & do not consider myself liable to be summoned as a Juryman.
On receiving the summs to attend as a Juryman I consulted my an Atty Mr Jas Anderson Rose who advised me that I was not liable to serve as a Juryman under the above circumstances unde unless I was summoned specially as a foreigner to try a foreigner

James Anderson Rose (1819-1890), solicitor [more]. On 14 July 1873 JW was called for jury service by the Central Criminal Court (#12157) and a fine imposed for non-appearance (H. Avory to JW, #11973). Rose wrote to JW on 23 August (#05223) regarding this affidavit (#12155), which was to be sent to Henry Avory (ca 1825-d. 1881), Clerk of the Central Criminal Court. It is written in an unknown hand, possibly that of Rose, or Lawson James McCreary, clerk to the solicitor, J. A. Rose [more].
