Notes:

1.  Charles Augustus Howell
Charles Augustus ('Owl') Howell (1840? - d.1890), entrepreneur [more].

2.  Algernon Graves
Algernon Graves (1845-1922), of H. Graves and Co., print dealers [more].

3.  MsLc
This copy was made on the printed notepaper of H. Graves and Co., and is not in Howell's hand. On the reverse of this sheet is #02184.

4.  portrait of Miss Corder
Arrangement in Brown and Black: Portrait of Miss Rosa Corder (YMSM 203).

5.  nocturnes
On the previous day, JW had asked Graves to deliver Nocturne in Grey and Gold (YMSM 155) to L. Ionides (#10913). It is not clear if Howell had just sold it to Ionides. There were, apparently, at least two Nocturnes of Battersea that were oscillating between Howell, JW and Graves.
