[Oval cameo of Minerva, with words:] THE ART JOURNAL

116 New Bond St. W.

Feby 4th 1893

Dear Mr Whistler,

We are sending you various rough pulls of the reproduction of 'The Gold Screen[2]' which we propose to use in our March number to illustrate Mr McColls[3] article on the Album.

Will you kindly indicate which of [p. 2] the colours you prefer. Probably none of them will be quite what you want, but I hope they will be sufficient for you to indicate which you like & we can send further proofs if required & you can spare time to examine them at once.

The block of course requires making ready & if you have any suggestions to as to certain parts being lighter or darker we should be glad to have them.

Yours very truly

D. C. Thomson

J McN. Whistler Eq

[p. 3] We have had a lot of people to see the 'Atelier' picture[4] which is in the P. M. Budget this week, but money seems so scarce that we cannot get anyone to buy it or almost anything else.

Mr Poole[5] has lent all his little pictures to 'The Fine Art Society' who are having an exhibition of some kind.

Have you any thing in oil new that we could have from you to buy?
