Friday
Dear Whistler,
The housemaid tells me that the number of persons calling to see the dining room[4] interferes with her greatly in getting the house ready -
There is so little time now left before we come up, that [p. 2] I must ask you to refuse any further applications to view the room.
Yours truly
Fred R Leyland

Notes:
1. [9 or 16 February 1877?]
Both 9 and 16 February 1877 were Fridays, and it was on these days JW held private and press views of Harmony in Blue and Gold: The Peacock Room (YMSM 178) (see #09604, #02847 and #01734).
2. Frederick Richards Leyland
Frederick Richards Leyland (1832-1892), ship-owner and art collector [more].
3. No. 9
Double-underlined and written in JW's hand, in the top left-hand corner of sheet. He seems to have numbered his correspondence with Leyland over Harmony in Blue and Gold: The Peacock Room (YMSM 178) with a view to publication, although this did not take place.
4. dining room
Harmony in Blue and Gold: The Peacock Room (YMSM 178), JW's decorative scheme for the dining room of Leyland's London house.
