Nocturne in Blue and Gold: Valparaiso Bay (YMSM 76) had been bought by Ionides in 1889 and was sold to Sir John Day in 1892. It had been on exhibition at 105th exhibition, Ouvrages de peinture, sculpture, architecture, gravure et lithographie des artistes vivants, Palais des Champs Elysées, Paris, 1890.
