Under the circumstances we see no alternative but to ask you to let us have a copy of the entire correspondence between you & Mr Vulliamy[3] accompanied by any explanation you think necessary that we may prepare a memorial to the Board -
We certainly understood from you that the plans had been approved by Mr Vulliamy before the work was begun - & we feel very strongly that we have been placed in a false position

The Metropolitan Board of Works were slow in giving JW planning permission for his new house, the White House on Tite Street, and withheld the lease until alterations were made to the facade.
