Mr Ashbee's works -
Sir -
Though the abominable rackett [sic], going on this morning, is possibly no more villanous [sic] in character than usual, it may be that my nervous system, so thoroughly shattered by this blackguard rascally rascally business, finds it impossible to tolerate more of it for the moment and I must ask you to stop at once -
As I have [p. 2] told you before I do not hold you personally respo[n]sible & know that you are merely carrying out the rascally blackguard orders that have prevented my doing any work using at all the studio that was let to me to work in - that have now become the scandal of Chelsea - Wherefore you had better refer my note to your directors - as I have told you to do with the others -
Meanwhile I shall be obliged if you will come in and speak to me immediately that something may be devised to prevent greater suffering than I have already endured - & of which my doctor, who has just left me, takes daily cognisance -

Notes:
1. C. R. Ashbee's foreman
Unidentified foreman to Charles Robert Ashbee (1863-1942), architect [more]. In March 1902, JW leased a house from Ashbee at 74 Cheyne Walk (JW to W. Webb, #06267). It was an unfortunate choice, for he was tormented for a lengthy period over the summer of 1902 by noisy building work going on next door (see JW to Ashbee's foreman, #00208). Ashbee had previously owned the property next door and JW blamed him for his predicament (JW to W. Webb, #06268).
