I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your telegram and the gentlemen with you for their active interest in the welfare of the Royal Society of British Artists.
The President begs to thank you for your kind offer to make the journey to town, but he does not think such solitary evidence of active interest in the proceedings of the Royal Society could bring about a result sufficient to excuse the effort.
CHARLES C. HANSON
To W. Ayerst Ingram, Esq., R. B. A.,
3. your telegram
JW had wired Ingram on 24 September 1887 to ask if he and Gotch were coming up to London from Falmouth (#10839). Not surprisingly, Hanson's letter offended Ingram (see his reply, #11321).
