Notes:

1.  [March 1878]
Dated in context of letters discussing the facade of the White House.

2.  George John Vulliamy
George John Vulliamy (1817-1886), Superintending Architect with the Metropolitan Board of Works, London [more].

3.  ALdS
This is one of two drafts (the other is #04052) for a letter which has not been traced.

4.  're White House'
In another hand, possibly that of Beatrix Whistler (1857-1896), née Beatrice Philip, artist [more].

5.  elevation of my house
The elevation of the White House designed by E. W. Godwin for JW in Tite Street. The facade had to be redrawn to incorporate additional decorative elements before the Metropolitan Board of Works would give JW the lease and planning permission. This explains the obsequious tone of this letter.

6.  Mr Godwin
Edward William Godwin (1833-1886), architect and designer [more].
