My dear Whistler.
I find Sparkes[2] [sic] has done two things wrong in the matter of the list. firstly he has confused St Giorgio[3] and with La Salute - Dawn[4] and left out of the numbers the two sets already delivered by us. It stands therefore now. thus:-
'Sat. Oct 2nd[5]' 22 Rialto.[6] 10 Upright Venice. - 19 Nocturne Palaces. 9 Fruit Stall. 14 Furnace Nocturne. 7 Bridge. 7 Ponte Piovan. 18 Long Venice. 16 Garden. 9 Balcony. - 17 Lobster Pots. 43 Long Lagoon. - - 15 Quiet Canal. 15 San Giorgio. - - 13 Fishing Boat. 16 Little Court. - - 5 Bead Stringers. 17 Drury Lane. - 8 Turkeys. 8 Riva No. 2. - - 12 Temple. 5 La Salute. Dawn. - 7 San Biagio. 7 Wheelwright. - 3 Doorway & Vine. 9 Lagoon Noon.

This list, written by Walter Dowdeswell, records the complete printing to date of A Set of twenty-six etchings of Venice, 1886 (the second 'Venice set') (K.196-216, 233-237). (excat 6). The etchings are as follows:Doorway and Vine (K.196), San Biagio (K.197), Bead-Stringers (K.198), Turkeys (K.199), Fruit-Stall (K.200), San Giorgio (K.201), Nocturne: Palaces (K.202), Long Lagoon (K.203), The Bridge (K.204), Upright Venice (K.205), The Riva, No.2 (K.206), The Balcony (K.207), Fishing-Boat (K.208), Ponte del Piovan (K.209), Garden (K.210), The Rialto (K.211), Long Venice (K.212), Nocturne: Furnace (K.213), Quiet Canal (K.214), La Salute: Dawn (K.215), Lagoon: Noon (K.216), Wheelwright (K.233), Temple (K.234), Lobster Pots (K.235) and Little Court (K.236). The dashes in each margin appear to have been added by JW as he checked the list.
