En réponse à votre lettre du 7 de ce mois[2], j'ai l'honneur de vous informer, que selon votre désir, j'ai confié à M. Th. Child[3] deux peintures de vous "Le pont"[4] et le tableau[5] qui était accroché en pendant, durant l'Exposition[6].

Les caisses étaient justement terminées lors de la réception de votre lettre et on a dû les ouvrir.

Aussitôt que M. Child nous renverra vos deux tableaux, ils seront emballés de nouveau avec le même soin [p. 2] et les caisses expédiées.

Translation:

Dear Mr Whistler

In reply to your letter of the 7th of this month, I have the honour to inform you, that according to your wishes, I have given to Mr. Th. Child two paintings of yours "The bridge" and the picture which was hanging beside it, during the Exhibition.

The boxes had just been finished on receipt of your letter and it was necessary to open them.

As soon as Mr. Child returns your two pictures, they will be packed again with the same care [p. 2] and the boxes sent.
