Dear Mr Kennedy,
We have been abroad for some time, and your letter has followed us here -
I cannot tell you how sorry we were to hear of the death of poor Mr Wunderlich[4], he was such a nice man - We feel the greatest sympathy for his family - [p. 2] I suppose you know, too, of the death of Mr Hutchinson[5], and the sale of his etchings - We hear the sale was a great success - all the papers sent to us say the prices were quite exceptional -
I saw our old friend Mr Keppel[6] was buying largely - but I did not see your name -
Since the sale of the Mother's[7] picture to the French Government, it is wonderful in what a different tone Whistler's pictures are spoken of by the [p. 3] London press - Several have said that his are the only pictures likely to increase in value as time goes on - Apropos of which - the Rosa Corder[8] picture has been bought by Mr Graham Robertson[9] - of Rutland Gate - so I am afraid you are a little too late for that one -
The Exhibition[10] the Goupils have got together will be a very interesting one, it will be curious to see the result.
Mr Whistler will let you know - directly any new [p. 4] new [sic] etchings are ready. I think there is a proof of the Battersea Bridge No. 3 - you asked for, which I will send to you on our return to town.
I think you know Mr Whistler has been doing coloured lithographs for some time passed [sic]. He thinks he has at last solved the difficulty, and they will shortly be published, I think by Mr Heinemann[11].
With our kindest regards and best wishes
Believe me
Very sincerely
Beatrix Whistler
