[Bavarian coat of arms and text:] KONIGLICHES KUPFERSTICHKABINET

Oct. 18th 1901.

Dear Sir -

Please accept my sincerest thanks for your very kind letter of the 14th inst.[2]. I shall of course return the lithograph to Mr. Heinemann[3] at once after the exhibition closes (Nov. 3rd). Naturally I am sorry that we must give up this exquisite print which is so greatly admired by all visitors to the exhibition.

I should be greatly obliged if you would send in exchange for it some other one of your lithotints, as we possess at present only one of your surface-lithographs: "Nocturne[4]" (Island San Giorgio, Venice?) whereas we have 9 of the crayon-line-lithographs[5] (Prosper Merimée[6], Gands de Suède[7], three variations of Montesquiou[8], two studies of nude girls, the Louvre Galérie[9] and Kensington Gardens[10]) and this side of your art accordingly is represented with us at least better than the other.

Please accept my very best thanks again for your great courtesy and believe me, very truly

your obedient servant

Max Lehrs.
