'[Oct. 30 or 31/86[3]]'
Dear Mr[s] Gardner,
I meant to have sent you the note about the pictures before but I have been so pushed with all the work that I have not had a moment to attend to anything but what was absolutely before me in the studio!
I have had the "Violet Note[4]" mounted and ma[d]e ready for you. It will be signed and completed.
And now behold this "business" matter:
The Note in Orange and Blue[5] (Sweet Shop) -- 100 gs. The Little Note in Yellow and Gold[6] 100 gs. The Violet Note 60 gs.
You are coming to the studio lundi au revoir[7]
Very sincerely yours
J. McN. Whistler
