Is the rumour true about your "arrangement"?
Possibly a reference to JW's recent engagement to Beatrix Whistler (1857-1896), née Beatrice Philip, artist [more]. The Whistlers were married on 11 August. However, it may relate to JW's attempt to retain the Presidency of the Royal Society of British Artists.
