Thursday -

My dear Miss Brown

Your kind invitation though dated Tuesday has only reached me this morning or you would have heard before how sorry I am at not being able to accept it - but the recent death of my elder brother[3] keeps us all rather to our selves just now - and so I may not have the pleasure seeing you tomorrow evening - [p. 2] Believe me my dear Miss Brown with the best wishes of the season

Yours sincerely

J A McN Whistler
