'Sept 1891'

Dear Sir -

I send herewith the three small pictures - and I wish to add a word to what I said yesterday -

Kindly say to write to the house in Paris[3] - and say that I should not like these pictures to be openly exhibited at present, but that they are to be shown by themselves, as you would show them, to special clients in a very choice and careful way -

Very truly Yours

J McN. Whistler

Will you[4] be good enough to send me the address of the picture liner Mr. Richards[5] or Richardson? -

[p. 2] c/metres

Opal[6] - 23½ x 14
Lapis 26½ x 12½
Rouge oil 30 x 22½
Landscape 16 x 9¾

1.  [24/30 September 1891]
'Sept 1891' (and '2B') are added in an unknown hand at the top of p. 1. This letter may be a reply to Thomson's letter of 23 September 1891, #05678, and relate to an undated note, #08197.

2.  David Croal Thomson
David Croal Thomson (1855-1930), art dealer [more].

3.  house in Paris
Boussod, Valadon & Cie (Goupil's), art dealers.

4.  Will you ... Richardson? -
Added in left margin.

5.  Mr. Richards
Stephen Richards (b. ca 1845), picture restorer [more].

6.  Opal
This list (and the heading 'c/metres'), which is similar to #08197, is written very roughly in another hand. It possibly refers to Rose et Opale (M.1231), Blue and Violet. Lapis Lazuli (M.1070), Note in Red: The Siesta (YMSM 254) and Green and Gold: The Sloop (YMSM 368).
