I have just read, with extreme gratification, in your most amiable and courteous letter, the news of my unanimous election as Honorary Member to the American Art Association -

Charles Bowen Bigelow (1859-1924), secretary of the American Art Association [more]. This is a reply to a letter from Bigelow dated 14 February 1894, #02689. A copy of JW's letter, by JW, is #02690.

2.  drawing
This drawing is not mentioned in the letter and it is probable that it was added later by another hand. It is a careful and accurate drawing, possibly by a member of the American Art Association of Arrangement in Grey and Black: Portrait of the Painter's Mother (YMSM 101) was by this time in the Musée du Luxembourg.
