are understand that there is a disposition to meet you - on the part of the Architect, & some arrangement must be come to before we can move further in the matter - we have written to Mr. Whistler to this effect - We feel that we ought not to have been placed in this position

The Metropolitan Board of Works were slow in giving JW planning permission for his new house, the White House on Tite Street, and withheld the lease until alterations were made to the facade.
