Dear Mr Whistler
I have posted to you M. Marty's[3] 107 prints - tonight. I trust you will like them. I find that there is no difference at all between the first and the last of the pulls. Now I will tell you that we have printed them all from the original stone, but - we have taken the liberty of putting a small imprint on his proofs [p. 2] which can now be taken off the stone and you may have another hundred printed on your own paper, and I will guarrantee [sic] no person at all will be aware that they have not all been pulled before these 107; they will only know that a certain number will have an imprint on them - Judge for yourself when you open the packet, I cannot tell you which is the begining [sic] and or which the end, but see if you can tell?. I will send you the transfer paper[4] and instructions when [p. 3] sending the Brittany proofs -
I have seen Mr White[5] of the "Studio" today. and in the course of conversation I asked him about the P. M. Mag, and learnt the following[:] That it does belong to Astor[6] and that they are paying high prices[7] for "Star" work, at any rate in the matter of writing, but what actual figure for any drawing he could not say. But "Harper's" magazine pays £10 for a single drawing (full page) as a frontispiece Etc[.] I do not, of course know what it is the P. M. M. want from you, whether etching or lithograph or what, but perhaps you can get at some result from this information. They want your work and can afford to pay for it. Q. E. D.

L'Estampe originale had been advertised to be ready for publication in November 1893, but Way did not receive the printing paper from Marty until about 3 December. 107 impressions of The Draped Figure, Seated (C.72) were printed by Way, dried, and packed ready for postage by 5 December and issued with L'Estampe Originale, album IV, Paris, December 1893.
