Dear Mr Whistler
Oscar[3] is climbing down! I wrote him a contemptuous note informing him that his outrageous letter had caused me infinite amusement.
[p. 2] He replied with a in far more subdued tones, suggesting that the propriety of my alluding to him, in republishing my memoirs, shd be referred to the arbitration of some man of letters.
To this I have [p. 3] replied that I am willing to humour him & that Mr Whistler - whose literary record is not unknown to him - might would be an appropriate judge!
All this will be useful to work into the reissue of my memoirs, which is to appear in a paper I [p. 4] am going to bring out next month, to be called the Whirlwind
Yours very sincerely
Herbert Vivian
Sickert[4] has consented to be Art Critic to my paper.
