TELEGRAMS, BOUSSOD, LONDON.

Londres.

Nov. 21st 1893.

Dear Mr Whistler,

Yes they have sent 'La chaloupe[2]' with a note stating it was not an aquarelle[3] you asked them to send - & as we had requested from them - but this little oil. I do not quite understand what it means but I thought you were to send a water [p. 2] colour that we were to show to Deprez[4] & this 'Chaloupe' confuses me. You might ask to see M. Etienne Boussod[5] for he is the best man for you.

Sir W. E.[6] is a man who changes his ideas continually. I told him you would require £500 for a head size, & probably £2,000 & in any case £1500 for a full length.

=

He is troublesome in his dealings & you must be very careful & precise in business details & settle the matter before hand.

- It is popularly believed here that [p. 3] you are to have £600 for the cabinet full length of a "Scottish gentleman" you are painting. This is Mr Cowan[7] of course.

My assistant[8] who has charge of the lithographs is absent, but doubtless you know how they stand, & it is all written down

W You might consider the question of your supplying us with these lithos. at a price to enable us to push them [p. 4] in the trade. At present & often we have provided double mounts for the etchings[,] the profit is so desperately meagre that with bad debts & long credit we are not any better when we sell them!

We really require 50% & sell to the trade for 33 1/3 % as with your former lithos.

Yours vy truly

D. C. Thomson
