In reply to your note of 23rd Jan. I beg to say that the few finished pictures[3] by Mr. Whistler in my possession, have all been exhibited - one or two repeatedly - It would be most unpleasant & inconvenient to me to lend any of them again -

They eventually agreed to lend Variations in Flesh Colour and Green: The Balcony (YMSM 56), but decided to sell the other works (The Last of Old Westminster (YMSM 39), Battersea Reach (YMSM 45) and Harmony in Blue and Silver: Trouville (YMSM 64)).
4. drawing
This was probably by Beatrix Whistler (1857-1896), née Beatrice Philip, artist [more], and caricatures contemporary dress.
