MORGAN HALL,
FAIRFORD,
GLOUCESTERSHIRE.

My dear Whistler

Your runes are dark enough to fill one with a vain regret - I must not brood over them.

As for the question of nationality I have not been invited to retouch it and I keep [p. 2] my twang. If you should hear anything to the contrary, please state that there was no such transaction and that I am an American.

With kind regards from the Abbeys[3]

Yours sincerely

John S Sargent

Notes:

1.  [22 January 1894?]
This is probably a reply to JW's letter of 20 January 1894, #02669.

2.  John Singer Sargent
John Singer Sargent (1856-1925), artist [more]. He had been elected an ARA, and JW had suggested he might have had to renounce his nationality.

3.  Abbeys
Edwin Austin Abbey (1852-1911), painter and illustrator [more]; and Mary Gertrude Abbey (d. 1931), née Meade [more].
