My dear Whistler,
I have heard reports that Mr Sheridan Ford has asserted that he had a position of influence, or a certain status in connection with the Grafton Gallery.
Should this be true I beg that you will give such statements an emphatic denial
Neither the Grafton Galleries, nor the Portrait Society have any connections whatever with Mr Sheridan [p. 2] Ford.

2. HONORARY DIRECTORS
These include John James Robert Manners (1818-1906), Marquis of Granby, politician [more]; Emmanuel Maguire Underdown (1831-1913), barrister [more]; Edward Montagu Stuart Granville Stuart-Wortley (1827-1899), 1st Earl of Wharncliffe [more].
3. T. D. CROFT
T. D. Croft, managing director of the Grafton Galleries.
4. HENRY BISHOP
Henry Bishop, Secretary of the Grafton Gallery, possibly an artist.
5. Mr Sheridan Ford
Sheridan Ford (1860-1922), poet, critic, politician and writer on art [more]. This letter is clearly intended for circulation, following correspondence between Prange and JW on the subject of Ford's malpractices (see Prange to JW, 17 and 19 May 1893, #05028, #05029). JW made a copy of this letter, again, presumably for circulation, #05031.
6. Portrait Society
The Society of Portrait Painters; JW was on the committee.
