THE AVENUE,
76, FULHAM ROAD, S. W.

Nov 8th 1878

Excellentissimo! The letter[2] is a splendid etching! Many thanks for it - It is high time that something should turn up - I saw Godwin[3] yesterday who told me a funny story about Howell[4] - & Godwin had to value the artistic merits of the house which really no money can replace, it seems.

Yours

J E Boehm

1.  Joseph Edgar Boehm
Joseph Edgar Boehm (1834-1890), sculptor [more].

2.  letter
Not located.

3.  Godwin
Edward William Godwin (1833-1886), architect and designer [more]. Godwin's appraisal of C. A. Howell's house, Chaldon House in Fulham (#02186), was required in a legal dispute between Howell and the Metropolitan District Railway Company. He valued it at around £7200, which was rather generous.

4.  Howell
Charles Augustus ('Owl') Howell (1840? - d.1890), entrepreneur [more].
