This is an invitation to 'Sunday breakfast' on 27 October and probably dates from within the previous two weeks. 27 October fell on a Sunday in 1878.

Howell had acquired the copyright of Arrangement in Grey and Black, No. 2: Portrait of Thomas Carlyle (YMSM 137), and organised subscriptions for the engraving by Richard Josey (1840-1906), reproductive engraver [more], published by H. Graves and Co. (see #02785).
