Dear Jimmy
I have your letter[2] enclosing draft for 280 francs & you will find enclosed the bills for the frames[3]. I had them delivered yesterday to the packer & I hope to be able to start them to day, "petite vitesse ", for 7A[4] where I trust they will reach you in safety & do not think that your brother in-law[5] can reproach good taste in either. The smaller is a beauty & has not the least look of being "hewn out of wood".
Saw Fantin[6] Sunday, the peaches[7] I coveted were not his, he had given them to the beast of a picture dealer (they are all, like the "Juges[8]", all beasts) so I could not [p. 2] make him an offer as I had intended.
I will certainly see the Westminster bridge[9] when the exhibition opens, Martinet[10] is giving concerts in his rooms & dont [sic] appear to occupy himself much about picture art & artists -
I will be repaid for the trouble if the frames are entirely to your taste & satisfaction, but will be more repaid with

Fr., slow goods service. JW was living at 7A Queen's Road West in Chelsea.

Francis Seymour Haden (1818-1910), surgeon and etcher, JW's brother-in-law [more]. He did not acquire any new paintings at this time.
6. Fantin
Ignace-Henri-Jean-Théodore Fantin-Latour (1836-1904), artist [more].
7. peaches

Fr., Judges. There is a proverb to the effect that judges are beasts and beasts are judges!
