W.

Dearest Mr Whistler,

I have just returned to town & am most anxious to have the pleasure of congratulating you & Mrs Whistler[4] on the happy event, which took place during my absence [p. 2] abroad. Let me wish you a long & prosperous united life, you know, that no one is more sincerely your wellwisher than I am & I hope soon to be allowed to make the acquaintance of Mrs. Whistler. Will you let us see you both at dinner some day next week? With the exception [p. 3] of the tuesdays of the next 2 weeks we have no engagement & hope, you will fix a day when we may expect you -

Most truly yours

Betty Lewis.
