Sir

In reply to yours[2] of 29 Apl I am directed to say that annexed to the list of members intending to dine, in which list your name appears, was a notice containing (inter alia) the following words "Members unavoidably compelled to relinquish their intention of dining must give a weeks notice, say before Monday 8 Dec, or they will be held responsible for the price of the dinner Ticket"

The printed post card you return was sent to save you trouble in giving notice in case you were "unavoidably compelled to relinquish your intention of dining"

I am Sir
