Dear Sir -
I beg that you will present my compliments to Mr. Kirkpatrick[3] and the members of the Committee, and convey to them my high appreciation of their Courtesy.
I am much touched by the flattering invitation of the Chairman and Committee - and [p. 2] deeply regret that it is impossible for me to find myself, as I had hoped, among their guests on this brilliant occasion! -
As a McNeill myself, I sympathize with all honours acquired by my distinguished Scottish Confrères! - and wish to offer them, through you Sir, my warmest congratulations on the Royal recognition - so well conferred upon the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts -
And I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant
J. McNeill Whistler -
