Detroit. Michigan.
33 FERRY AVENUE.

Decem. 1st
'1900.'[3]

Dear Mr. Whistler;

Since my return home I have found it necessary to spend much of my time in New York and Boston and less than one week [p. 2] ago was the first opportunity I had to unpack and hang in your group the "Little Lady Sophie of Soho[4]"

I found that the journey had fortunately, done her no harm and that she was as attractive as ever. Along [p. 3] with "The Balcony[5]", "Bognor[6]", "Portsmouth Harbour[7]", (Nocturne) "La Cigale[8]" and the delightful water colors and pastels, she hangs in serene triumph, a bit coquettish perhaps, but always beautiful - She has many admirers already and the number is sure to increase -

I am positive that I have never [p. 4] thanked you sufficiently for having placed her in my care and I fear that I never can -

Your health is very much improved I hope[.] Do take the best of care of yourself and accept I beg you, my renewed appreciation of your many courtesies extended during my recent visit in London - I am quite well again, and am anticipating a very pleasant winter,

With every good wish and[9] kindest regards, Believe me, Faithfully yours,

Charles L Freer
