Paris 89 rue de Rome,

Dimanche

Mon cher ami

Translation:

Paris 89 rue de Rome,

Sunday

My dear friend

There you are, they are having the exhibition of the painter-engravers at Durand-Ruel, on 1st March , and they are desperate to have your agreement to be part of it, or at least to have your permission to display the etchings of yours that the shop has. But the funny part is that I have been made the go-between for this request, because, my dear Whistler, I am said to have some influence, and that flatters me. A word, then your hand. I have just set Belgium alight with a lecture. Regards to Madame

yours

Stéphane Mallarmé
