1.  [22/29 April 1886]
This is an invitation card for the private view of 'Notes' - 'Harmonies' - 'Nocturnes', Second Series, Messrs Dowdeswell, London, 1886. Invitations were presumably sent in the week previous to 29 April 1886.

2.  Edward William Godwin
Edward William Godwin (1833-1886), architect and designer [more].

3.  ARRANGEMENT IN BROWN AND GOLD
JW's solo exhibition, 'Notes' - 'Harmonies' - 'Nocturnes', Second Series, Messrs Dowdeswell, London, 1886, featured 75 oils, watercolours, pastels and drawings and a catalogue designed by JW. The gallery was decorated in a scheme of brown and gold, the same colour in which the butterfly signature of this letter appears.
