4. Hungerford
The etchings listed are Old Hungerford Bridge (K.76), Limehouse (K.40), Old Westminster Bridge (K.39), Chelsea Bridge and Church (K.95), not identified, The Lime-burner (K.46), The Guitar Player (K.140), Eagle Wharf (K.41), Thames Warehouses (K.38), not identified, Rotherhithe (K.66). Since the etching called here 'Lambeth' is in a state defined as 'before address' this suggests that it could have been a published etching such as Millbank (K.71), The Little Pool (K.74), The Punt (K.85a) or Sketching, No.1 (K.86a). 'Portrait (on blue cover)' may have been Whistler Sketching (K.25a). It was sometimes printed on blue, and does contain a portrait of JW with an admiring crowd. These were all early etchings. The sale price to Gosselin was noted in francs, and the same etchings were sold through W. C. Angus to T. G. Arthur for comparatively large sums, in guineas.
