Notes:

1.  10 November [1877]
The ledger was used from 10 October to 8 December 1877 (see #12734, #12742). This transaction was recorded and a cheque received on 12 November 1877 (#12988). In 1877 JW was encouraged by Charles Augustus ('Owl') Howell (1840? - d.1890), entrepreneur [more], with the help of Rosa Frances Corder (1853-1884), artist [more], to print from his old etching plates (see #12735, and Pennell, Elizabeth Robins, and Joseph Pennell, The Life of James McNeill Whistler, 2 vols, London and Philadelphia, 1908 1, pp. 214-15.)

2.  P. and D. Colnaghi and Co
P. and D. Colnaghi and Co., art dealers and print publishers.

The records in this ledger were written almost entirely by Mary Maud Franklin (1857- ca 1941), JW's model and mistress [more].

6.  Speke Avenue
Speke Hall, No.1 (K.96).
