4. From Limehouse
This etching has not been identified. Limehouse Pier is on the north bank of the Thames, on a bend of the river. From there, the artist could see the docks and wharves of Rotherhithe, or look due south down Limehouse Reach towards Greenwich, or west towards the Lower Pool of London.

A Sketch from Billingsgate (K.168). The annotations suggest that this impression was the first impression printed on 16 October 1877, and the 'x' could mean either that it was sold or returned. The addition of dates on this account is particularly useful in clarifying JW's printing practices.

The context suggests that this impression of The Guitar Player (K.140) was printed by Auguste Delâtre (1822-1907), printer [more].
23. Chelsea Wharf (Goulding)
The context suggests that this impression of Chelsea Wharf (K.89) was printed by Frederick Goulding (1842-1909), printer and print-maker [more]. The etching itself dates from about 1870. Goulding may have printed it when he was printing the Thames set.
