If your Client will pay the costs £3-13-6 - £3-0-0 for interest and [£40-?] on a/c debt we will undertake [to] stay further proceedings for one month within which time the balance £60 must be paid. These terms must be carried out on Monday at latest

Louis Herrman (b. 1810 or 1811), of Gilby and Herrman, artists' suppliers, later a picture dealer [more]. JW owed money to Herrman through loans negotiated by Charles Augustus ('Owl') Howell (1840? - d.1890), entrepreneur [more], as well as for the supply of artists's materials. JW had difficulties with the loan repayments (see for example, JW to Howell, #02778). Herrman was among JW's creditors listed in the records of the London Bankruptcy Court on 7 May 1879 (#11711).
