Translation:

You mentioned old Dutch paper - it is very kind of you to think of me in this way - if by any chance you find some you know how happy I should be to have it.

Notes:

1.  Carel Vosmaer
Carel Vosmaer (1826-1888), etcher and writer on art [more].

2.  ALfS
Published in Heijbroek, J. F. and Margaret F. MacDonald, Whistler and Holland, Zwolle and Amsterdam, 1997, p. 52; a transcription of the complete letter is not yet available.

3.  papier Hollandais
JW collected old paper with Dutch watermarks (such as the 'Arms of Amsterdam'), which was a better colour, texture and composition for printing, having no chemical additives. Vosmaer sent him some, and in return JW sent him impressions of etchings from the 'Thames set', including Black Lion Wharf (K.42), printed on such sheets (op. cit., p. 52, repr.)
