[printed invitation for breakfast at Tite Street at 12 a.m. on 1 July.]
1. [20/30 June 1881/1885?]
JW lived in Tite Street for many years. Although he was at the White House from July 1878 to September 1879, it is most likely that this invitation was sent from 13 Tite Street. Having signed the lease on 22 April 1881, he lived there through 1885. JW moved to the Tower House, 28 Tite Street, after his marriage in 1888, and invitations at that time would have come from him and his wife.
Extract published in Sotheby's sales catalogue, London, 12-13 December 1977 (lot 233). The document was described as a printed invitation completed and signed (with butterfly) by Whistler.
