Why did you not put in an appearance yesterday? - Also I thought that doubtless you and Mr. Toovey[3] would have turned up here to breakfast this morning -

Dont you remember that it was arranged that Mr Toovey was to photograph the pictures[5] today? -

A number of photographs of small works from the 1880s were apparently kept by Menpes, possibly as a result of the photography proposed here, e.g. Landscape with farm buildings (M.923), Master Menpes (YMSM 261), Street corner (M.1020).

6.  little plates
Menpes may have prepared copper etching plates for JW to use, or photographic plates.
