Dear Mr. Holmes -

All right - you may reproduce "the Piano"[3], on condition:-

1st. that of course it be only for the edition of the Studio - 2nd that you give me the negative - 3rd. that you take at the same time the head called "La Petite Souris[4]" - and that proof be immediately submitted to me -

[p. 2] 4th. that, if I am pleased, the reproduction of the ["]Petite Souris" be put in appear in same article, under same conditions - as "Piano" - The negative being also handed over to me -

It is also clear that in this I have some special intention - (which I suppose you will not be displeased to hear) Wherefore I have written[5] to Mr. Sauter saying that I should like to see his article as it goes on - so that I might perhaps "suggest" - or otherwise - All of which again I suppose might not be unpleasing to you - I have recommended that this be not talked about -

You might write to me here -

Very sincerely

J McNeill Whistler
