Translation:

Dear Sir -

Together with my best wishes for the New Year, I give you my thanks for your letter -

You have conquered "the amateur" very well! - and I am delighted to know that one of the Nocturnes is well placed in Paris.

Now Mr Thomson must have written to you, and already sent you a few proofs of the lithographs - I hope to have others, in a few days' time.

[p. 2] As for the large picture, he wanted to keep it for the moment - but you will probably have it soon -

I propose to come and visit you shortly and then we can arrange something else for the mysterious little corner!

J McN. Whistler

Did you receive the photograph I sent you?
