Dear Mr. Whistler -
Your letter of Oct. 18th[3] came to hand only this a.m. and I hasten to acknowledge it.
Yes, the lithographs are fine, but very dear, but I've given up protesting. I am gratified exceedingly at what you say about "cutters". Of course, I never for a moment thought that you would give ear to any one in the line of "cutting", but forewarned is forearmed. There are two parties here who want Whistler's, as I wrote to you before, and I think the Girl in pink[4] would suit.
Yes, I heard about the purchase of the marine[5] & congratulate you[.] [p. 2] I presume you did not write the letter in Lika Joka[6], but it is a good travesty. I am sorry that you are in such haste that you cannot say if you will send the paintings I ask for or not. Why not say "no" or "yes", then I shall know what to do. As I have written to you a few days ago, I shall not bother you with a longer letter. Election[7] to-day for Governor, & legislature of N. Y. Mayor of the city &c. &c.
