Dear Mr. Whistler,
Your letter of the 17th[3] came to hand yesterday a.m. and I am much pleased to have your approbation and friendly feeling. As to going to Paris, if you think you would care to do the copper[4] when I am there, or when I can go there, I would, of course, go out of my way, only I should have to have your assurance that you would feel like doing the Copper when I was there, for I find that it is not necessary to return to Paris, so I am going to Berlin and will return by way of Paris if that will suit you.
Meantime I await the arrival of the draft from New York. If it does not come by tomorrow I shall telegraph [p. 2] so as to have the matter settled, and the pictures in hand.
I cannot reply to your kind letter as I would wish to, but I appreciate your feelings and would like to reply in kind, but you know we are not all gifted like you. To return to the portrait on copper, time is valuable to me & I shall be glad if one day will be enough, as no doubt it will.
It may be of use too in the future, as it ought to be the correct thing to have a portrait etched by Whistler.
I should like a dry point in the old style; however I am in your hands. I shall be glad to have a line from you on this point at your convenience [&] am with best regards to yourself and madame[5],
Yours Sincerely,
E. G. Kennedy.
