1.  28 September [1878]
Whistler bought sole and oysters from John S. Charles (fl. 1876-1887), fishmonger in Pimlico, London [more], on 28 September 1878 (#08848).

2.  Potage
The elaborate menu, written in French, consisted of oyster soup, fried sole, mutton cutlets, Parisian beefsteaks, little pastries, cheese omelette and coffee. It was probably designed to entertain a prospective client.
