Dated by comparison of butterfly signature, writing and paper with other menus. Whistler bought whiting and oysters from John S. Charles (fl. 1876-1887), fishmonger in Pimlico, London [more], on 1 December 1877 (#08848).

2.  Potage
The menu, written in French, consisted of soup 'al Puchero' (a Spanish 'pot au feu'), whiting, deep fried oyster savouries, braised cutlets, larks, pineapples, mince pies and coffee.
