Dated by comparison of butterfly signature, writing and paper with other menus. Whistler bought sole from John S. Charles (fl. 1876-1887), fishmonger in Pimlico, London [more], on 3 November 1877 (#08848).
Unusually, this was written in pencil.
The menu, written in French, consisted of tomato soup, fried sole, lobster rissoles, mutton cutlets, chicken in white sauce, mince pies, peaches and coffee.
