Dated by comparison of butterfly signature, writing and paper with other menus (see #06903), confirmed by JW's purchase of sole and oysters from John S. Charles (fl. 1876-1887), fishmonger in Pimlico, London [more], on 8 December 1877 (#08849).

2.  Potage
The lavish menu, written in French, consisted of oyster soup, fried sole, pheasant with cabbage, gigot of salt-meadow lamb with haricot beans, lobster gâteau, cheese cakes, stewed pear (compote) and coffee.
